Can i replace 4 x 18 W TL8 lights at my office by LED strips?I’m renovating my office & want to replace those old 4 x 18 W TL8 lights by LED strips (7W/metre). I have around 30 such fixtures throughout the area. How much length of LED strip is required for the whole office? (The size of 1 TL8 fixture is 0.6m x 0.6m) I’m planning to replace the tubes by LED strips within the boxes of same dimensions.
You can probably install one LED strip almost 1/2 meter long in several of the fixtures. Remove all or part of the tubes in that box. Select locations where dimer light will be acceptable. If you don’t like it you can put the tubes back in, and forget LEDs. I think I would like that as I find most offices uncomfortably bright. The old florescents are almost as efficient as the best LEDs after about 1000 hours of operation, so your electric bill will be reduced mostly because you have less light. Like florescent tubes, LEDs strips are available with several different shades of white, so try several shades to determine what you find most pleasing. You may love the LEDs as some people get headaches, anxiety etc from the blink of ordinary florescent tubes, even though the blink to fast too see. The LEDs and compact florescent lights blink only slightly and at a much faster rate. Last time I checked the cheap light bulbs were expensive. The Christmas best led light bulbs will be cheap about December 27, so you can install some of those in a few of your boxes. I have one string that has been lighted nonstop for three years, so some of them do have long life. My guess is Christmas LED light strings are slightly less efficient than your 18W TL8, but that is ok for a test.
